What you'll study

This programme provides a foundation in core business disciplines—strategy, marketing, operations and organisational behaviour—alongside focused modules in financial management and accounting. In early stages you study fundamentals such as financial and management accounting, business finance, business law, quantitative methods and principles of management. As you progress you choose specialist financial modules which commonly include corporate finance, investment and portfolio management, risk management, financial reporting, taxation basics and financial modelling. The degree normally culminates in a research project or dissertation where you apply theory to a practical business or financial problem.

• Year 1 (core foundations): Financial Accounting; Principles of Management; Business and the External Environment; Quantitative Techniques for Business.
• Year 2 (development): Management Accounting; Corporate Finance; Organisational Behaviour; Marketing and Business Strategy; optional modules in areas such as banking, international finance or entrepreneurship.
• Final year (specialist study and project): Advanced Corporate Finance; Investment Analysis; Risk and Governance; Financial Modelling; Dissertation or applied consultancy project. A placement year option is typically available for an extended industry experience between study years.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to have a good level of achievement in secondary education. Typical offers are equivalent to mid to high A‑level grades or an appropriate UCAS tariff score; the University also accepts BTEC, Access to Higher Education, Scottish Highers and a range of international qualifications. GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent) are usually required at a standard pass level. Mature applicants with relevant work experience are considered on an individual basis. International applicants should demonstrate English language proficiency to the standard set by the University.

Graduates combine managerial understanding with financial expertise and move into a wide range of roles across the private and public sectors. Common career destinations include financial analyst, management trainee, corporate finance executive, investment analyst, risk analyst, management accountant, business consultant and roles within banking and financial services.
