What you'll study

This integrated masters builds from core principles in ecology, earth surface processes, chemistry and environmental policy to advanced, research‑oriented topics in the final year. Early stages emphasise quantitative and laboratory skills, field techniques and an understanding of environmental systems (for example ecosystems and biogeochemical cycles). Intermediate modules typically cover topics such as environmental monitoring and assessment, freshwater and soil science, pollution and remediation, climate change impacts, conservation biology and environmental law and policy.

Practical work is a strong feature throughout: regular laboratory sessions, mapped fieldwork on and off campus, and training in geospatial methods (GIS), remote sensing and statistical analysis. In the integrated masters year you undertake advanced taught modules and a substantial independent research project or dissertation at masters level, supervised by academic staff. Optional modules allow you to develop specialisms such as environmental impact assessment, habitat restoration, hydrogeology, environmental modelling or sustainability appraisal. Entry requirements

Entry is normally from school/college or via progression from a relevant undergraduate pathway.
