What you'll study

This masters combines core theory with applied tools used in modern logistics and supply chain practice. Modules cover supply chain strategy and design, operations and process management, procurement and supplier relationship management, inventory control and demand planning, transport and distribution, and the role of information systems and analytics in supply networks. You will study a mix of taught modules and a major research or consultancy project that allows you to apply techniques to a real-world problem.

• Supply Chain Strategy and Design – principles of strategic network design, facility location, capacity planning and aligning supply chain strategy with business objectives.
• Operations and Process Management – process analysis, lean operations, service operations and performance measurement.
• Procurement and Supplier Management – sourcing strategies, contract management, supplier evaluation and sustainable procurement practices.
• Inventory Control and Demand Planning – forecasting techniques, inventory models, replenishment policies and supply–demand balancing.
• Transport, Distribution and Logistics Management – freight modes, route and vehicle scheduling, warehousing, cross-docking and last-mile considerations.
• Logistics Information Systems and Analytics – enterprise systems, use of ERP/WMS/TMS data, spreadsheet modelling and basic data analytics for decision support.
• Project/Dissertation – independent research or applied project with emphasis on solving practical supply chain issues, often with industry input.

Teaching methods typically include lectures, seminars, case studies, practical workshops using simulation and spreadsheet tools, group projects and guest lectures from practitioners. Assessment is by a combination of coursework, individual assignments, group work, presentations and the final project.

Entry requirements

Applicants normally require a UK second-class honours degree (2:2 or above) in a relevant discipline such as business, management, engineering, logistics, economics, or a related subject. Candidates with significant professional experience in logistics or supply chain roles, or holding professional qualifications, will also be considered. International applicants should demonstrate equivalent academic qualifications and English language proficiency to meet university requirements.
