What you'll study

This program blends commerce fundamentals with specialist data analytics training. You study core commerce subjects such as accounting, economics, management and marketing alongside technical units in statistics, data management, programming and applied analytics.

• Foundations: introductory accounting, micro- and macro-economics, business law, and management theory to ground analytical work in commercial context.
• Quantitative and technical skills: probability and statistics, regression and forecasting, database design and SQL, programming for data analysis (commonly Python or R), and data wrangling.
• Analytics and modelling: data visualisation, machine learning fundamentals, data mining, predictive analytics and optimisation techniques applied to business problems.
• Tools and platforms: practical use of analytics software and platforms, such as spreadsheet modelling, SQL-based databases, visualisation tools, and scripting environments for reproducible analysis.
• Applied project/capstone: a major integrative project or industry-linked placement where you work on a real-world data problem, developing technical solutions and business recommendations.
• Electives and special topics: options commonly include marketing analytics, financial analytics, health analytics, ethics of data, and business intelligence depending on campus offerings.

Entry requirements

Admission typically requires successful completion of secondary education or an equivalent qualification. ACU considers a range of entry pathways, including tertiary entrance scores, recognised foundations programs and portfolio or special entry where applicable.

• Academic background: satisfactory high-school completion with competency in mathematics; some experience in mathematical methods, statistics or quantitative subjects is advantageous.
• English language: for applicants whose prior study was not in English, a recognised English proficiency test is required; standard university minimums apply.
• Alternate pathways: mature-age applicants, applicants with vocational qualifications or transfers from other tertiary institutions may be considered based on prior study and experience.
