What you'll study

The MA in Liberal Studies emphasises broad, cross-disciplinary intellectual engagement. Students take core seminar courses that introduce methods and debates across disciplines such as history, literature, philosophy, political theory, economics and cultural studies. Coursework typically covers research methods, theory in the humanities and social sciences, and training in academic writing and argumentation.

Alongside core modules, learners choose from elective clusters that allow them to pursue specialisms — for example intellectual history, gender and sexuality studies, development studies, environmental humanities, political economy, or digital culture. The degree normally culminates in a substantial capstone: either a supervised research dissertation or a practicum/major project that applies interdisciplinary methods to a sustained topic.

Entry requirements
