A practice-focused master's for registered nurses who want to teach in academic or clinical settings. Suits RNs seeking to develop curriculum, teaching strategies and evaluation skills while maintaining work flexibility through hybrid evening and blended coursework.

What you'll study

The program begins with an initial education course that lays the foundation for nurse educators and then advances through a set of nursing education courses and related master’s-level nursing content totaling 35 credits. Seventeen credits concentrate specifically on educator topics such as the role of the nurse educator, curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies, evaluation of learning, and informatics in education and healthcare. The final requirement is a 60-hour practicum experience in which students develop, teach, and evaluate courses in both academic and non-academic settings.

Entry requirements

Admission requires a baccalaureate degree in Nursing that included courses in pathophysiology, physical assessment, pharmacology, statistics, and research. Applicants who have not completed those prerequisite courses must take them prior to admission.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to teach in academic programs and in healthcare delivery settings. The curriculum prepares students to take the National League for Nursing’s certification exam to become a Certified Nurse Educator, and faculty bring clinical and teaching experience to help students transition into educator roles.

Scholarships & funding angle

Mount alumni receive a 20% discount on graduate tuition; other funding options are not specified on the program page. Prospective students should consult the college’s financial services for additional scholarships, grants, or assistantship opportunities.
