What you'll study

Core coursework develops practical skills in reading and researching American law, analyzing cases and statutes, and understanding legislative and administrative processes. Featured courses include:

• MLAW 500 Graduate Foundations for Law (2 credits) — graduate-level study skills, academic writing, online learning tools, and information literacy.
• MLAW 513 Foundations of Legal Thought (3 credits) — philosophical and theological roots of American law, the lawyer’s role, and jurisprudential thinking.
• MLAW 552 American Legal System & Writing (3 credits) — case and statute reading, legal analysis, and research techniques.
• MLAW 605 Legislation & Regulation (3 credits) — functions and processes of legislatures and administrative agencies, plus constitutional limits on agency power.
• MLAW 619 Constitutional Law & Policy I (3 credits) — constitutional history and the structure, powers, and limits of the three federal branches; state and local authority (cross-listed with GOV 619).

Students may also pursue one of many concentrations such as Advanced Paralegal Studies, Business Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law & the Justice System, Cybersecurity Law, Healthcare Law, Human Resources Law, Human Rights & Global Justice, Immigration Law, Legal Studies (custom), National Security, Negotiation, Mediation & Dispute Resolution, Nonprofit & Church Law, or Regulatory Compliance.

Entry requirements

Admission is through Regent University’s application process. The programme notes all students are expected to check in for a semester two weeks before the session start date; applicants should complete application, acceptance, enrollment in first courses, and confirm a payment plan prior to that check-in. Session start dates follow the university’s published session calendar (for example, Session B start: Monday, October 26). No LSAT is required.

Career prospects

The MLS prepares graduates to communicate about legal issues, evaluate legal and compliance matters across sectors, and conduct legal research.
