A one-year, low-residency MA that pairs interdisciplinary ethical study with community-engaged practice. Suited to students from diverse academic backgrounds who want to translate personal values into practical, values-driven professional pathways.
Courses emphasize discussion, reflection, and applied projects. Students engage with diverse philosophical perspectives and test ethical ideas through guided dialogue and partnerships with community organizations. The program culminates in a personalized, values-driven Master’s Project that aligns students' prior academic experience with concrete career aims.
Graduates are prepared for roles where ethical reasoning and values-based leadership matter. Typical pathways listed by the program include public policy and government, social impact organizations, academic positions, corporate social responsibility and ESG, law and legal studies, and healthcare ethics.
Two program-specific awards are noted: the Resilience Studies Consortium (RSC) Scholarship—$11,000 available to nine students who commit to completing the MAE Master’s Project through service at one of nine RSC campuses (preference to RSC campus graduates)—and the Community Philosopher Scholarship—$2,500 for two students with a record of combining academic philosophy or ethics with community action.
