Minors are 30‑ECTS thematic packages delivered in a blended format: in‑person teaching at the host university supplemented by online content from partners. Each minor includes a 6–8 ECTS challenge course where small teams tackle a real‑world problem connected to the host community. Example minors (indicative list across YUFE partners) include Urban Health & Wellbeing; Urban Ecology in Europe; Urban Sustainable Development; Smart Cities for Sustainable Culture; Sustainable Tourism; Heritage and Design; and others offered across the alliance.

Entry requirements

Admission begins by selecting one of the eight YUFE degree‑awarding universities as your starting university; first‑year course content may vary by starting location. Students who start the programme at the University of Rijeka can apply for an annual study access grant (see Scholarships & funding angle). Detailed application procedures and any national entry criteria should be checked with the chosen starting university and the YUFE admissions contact.

Career prospects

The programme prepares students for roles that require interdisciplinary understanding of urban and rural sustainability, collaborating internationally with peers, academics and businesses. Graduates can pursue positions in local and regional planning, sustainability coordination, community engagement and roles in NGOs, public authorities or private firms addressing urban environmental, social and economic challenges. The programme also offers preparation for master’s level study through research skills and academic advising.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Students who begin the YUFE Joint Bachelor at the University of Rijeka may apply for an annual study access grant of up to EUR 2,500; the call referenced in the programme text is open until 19 October 2026. Mobility is a built‑in component of the curriculum: to meet the programme requirement you must take at least two minors at partner universities other than your starting university, which has cost and logistics implications to plan for.
