What you'll study

The curriculum blends practice-based and theory-based perspectives drawn from psychology, education, management, social science, and the humanities. Students examine phenomena such as individual resistance to change, organizational structures and processes that inhibit innovation, and sociocultural contexts that affect marginalization and empowerment. Study includes interdisciplinary lenses, cohort seminars, and a dissertation that advances evidence-based ways to practice and lead change.

Entry requirements

The program is a post-masters doctoral track intended for full-time enrollment. Students proceed through cohort-based annual requirements and participate in a faculty-facilitated Proseminar for the first three years. For the President’s Doctoral Fellowship consideration, applicants need a minimum prior GPA of 3.40; recipients must remain enrolled full time and maintain satisfactory academic progress and course completion to continue receiving the award.

Career prospects

Many students are mid- to senior-level practitioners who deepen their current career trajectories through the degree. Graduates also use the PhD to pursue new roles such as consultants, college or university instructors, or public intellectuals within their professional networks. Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Antioch offers the President’s Doctoral Fellowship for incoming doctoral students: a $12,000 award paid equally over the first two registered years. Awards are based on prior academic performance (minimum 3.40 GPA) and work/life experience; recipients must remain enrolled full time and meet ongoing progress and course-completion requirements.
