What you'll study

Learning is practice-focused and organised around stages of enterprise development. Incubatees work on idea improvement, prototyping and start-up operations while receiving capacity building in entrepreneurship, innovation and business management. Cohorts are grouped by theme (Business Entrepreneurship Incubation Program, Social Entrepreneurship Incubation Program, Leadership Incubation Program, Innovation/Talent/Industry Specific Incubation Program). The centre also delivers trainings, workshops, presentations, study visits and demonstrations.

Entry requirements

Target intake prioritises Institute of Accountancy Arusha students (approximately 90% of places) across all programmes from certificate to masters level, with about 10% reserved for external youth and alumni. Existing alumni companies and local SMEs may also engage. The number of incubatees depends on available resources and partnering arrangements.

Career prospects

The centre aims to increase self-employment and help graduates transition into the business world by linking ideas to resources that enable start-up formation and growth. Expected outcomes include moving from idea to prototype, establishing an operational start-up and graduating as a more sustainable, revenue-generating company. The incubator connects participants to networks, business development services and external stakeholders (government, SMEs, corporates) who may present real problems and opportunities.

Scholarships & funding angle

The Business Start-Up Centre does not list formal scholarships but works to link start-ups with required resources such as knowledge, funds and networks through partners in entrepreneurship, technology and the innovation ecosystem. Services that reduce early costs include provision of a credible business address, affordable working space, meeting venues and connections to business development services and mentors.
