What you'll study

Full-time undergraduates study 120 credits per year in modules of 60, 30 or 15 credits taught over 10 or 20 weeks. Chinese language teaching mixes classroom lessons and independent study; some non-language modules are delivered by lecture. During the year abroad (third year) students study at Beijing Normal University (BNU) or in Taiwan. Single-subject students on the year abroad take specific language modules: Newspaper Reading (baokan 报刊), Reading and Writing (duxie 读写), Conversation (huihua 会话) and Listening (tingli 听力). Examination formats include oral and written exams plus coursework or reports.

Entry requirements

Entry is for September start, campus-based, four years in duration, full-time. Typical A level offer is ABB with a contextual offer of BBB. For joint degrees with differing requirements, the offer will follow the subject with the higher entry requirements. For combinations available with this programme the range is AAB–ABB. Career prospects

Graduates gain intercultural awareness, analytical and communication skills and strong Chinese language proficiency. Employers of recent graduates include Accenture, Amazon, Bloomberg LP, Department for Work and Pensions, European Commission, Google, KPMG, PwC, UNDP and others across consultancy, government, finance, NGOs, cultural organisations and education.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Fees stated for 2025/26 entrants are: Home £9,790 and Overseas £23,780 per academic year for the BA. For the language year abroad the fee is listed as Home £1,425 and Overseas £11,770.
