What you'll study

The curriculum follows a global history framework across a range of time periods and geographic areas. All history majors and minors complete a research project as part of the required 4000-level seminar. Students are encouraged to undertake independent research under faculty supervision and may combine the major with a language (American Sign Language, German, Ojibwe, or Spanish) or with a middle/secondary education major to qualify for teaching pathways.

Admission is handled through the College of St. Scholastica admissions process. Incoming first-year applicants receive either the Benedictine Scholarship or the Access Award upon admission.

Career prospects

Graduates leave with skills valued across many fields: critical analysis, organized research, and effective writing. While some become professional historians, alumni commonly pursue careers in education, law, politics, journalism and media, publishing, business, public policy, advocacy, civil and foreign service, archives and libraries, museums and historic preservation, and public history. The program also serves as preparation for graduate or professional schools.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

All new first-year applicants are automatically awarded either the Benedictine Scholarship or the Access Award on admission. The college reports that 100% of traditional incoming undergraduates receive some type of scholarship; the stated average for scholarships, grants, and/or loans is $31,841.
