What you'll study

The curriculum blends theory and field experiences to prepare counselors to support academic, social and emotional development for K–12 students. Coursework is delivered in eight-week online courses, augmented by one-week intensive sessions in January and July. Students may choose electives that align with NCE exam preparation for those pursuing LPC credentials and can receive Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy training as part of the program.

Entry requirements

Admission is through Messiah University's graduate application process; the program offers flexible start dates and two-, three- and four-year timelines to completion. Prospective students should consult Messiah's admissions information and the Associate Director of Enrollment for Graduate Studies & Adult Education for specific application steps and required materials.

Career prospects

The program academically prepares graduates to become certified or licensed school counselors, qualifying them to work in K–12 settings supporting students' academic, social and emotional development. The curriculum and field placements are intended to build the professional identity, leadership skills and evidence-based practice competencies expected of school counselors.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Messiah offers a no-fee tuition model (no additional university charges for labs, services or technology) and students in the MA in Counseling are eligible to apply for federal financial aid. Deferred billing is available for students with employer reimbursement. Graduate courses are PDE-approved for Act 48 credit upon request.
