The University of Canberra (UC) is now inviting applications for its University Research Scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year. These highly competitive awards support Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates—both domestic and international—across a wide range of disciplines. Less than 10% of applicants were successful in the previous round, making this one of the most sought-after PhD scholarships in Australia.

Stipend: AUD $36,225 per annum (2025 rate, tax-free) for living costs
Duration: Up to 3.5 years
Tuition fee sponsorship (for eligible international candidates)
Back payment of stipend upon onshore arrival for approved offshore international candidates

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a University of Canberra Research Scholarship, applicants must:
Be a domestic or international student
Not have previously held an Australian Government-funded research scholarship for more than six months
Have a qualification equivalent to Australian First-Class Honours or a Master’s degree with a significant research component (minimum 25% of course, result ≥ 80%)
Be applying for or currently enrolled in a PhD program at UC
Preference given to:
PhD candidates with Confirmation of Candidature and less than 2 years EFT
Indigenous Australian applicants
Candidates aligned with the National Industry PhD Program – Industry Linked stream
Application Procedure
Apply for HDR Admission via the HDR Application Portal
Once admitted or application is in process, complete the Research Scholarship application form via the HDR Portal
Submit required documentation, including academic transcripts, research proposal, and CV
Applications are ranked by faculties based on academic merit, research proposal quality, alignment with UC priorities, and research experience
Final awards determined by the University Research Scholarship Committee
