What you'll study

The programme combines core economic theory with quantitative methods and applied policy subjects. In the early years you will cover foundational topics such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, business mathematics and introductory statistics. As you progress, modules typically include intermediate micro and macro theory, econometrics, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, development economics and labour economics.

• Quantitative and analytical tools: statistics for economists, econometrics, applied data analysis and research methods.
• Core economic theory: microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, welfare economics and market structure.
• Applied policy and institutions: public finance, taxation, monetary policy, international trade and development policy.
• Specialist and regional topics: Islamic economics and finance, economic development of the region, and elective courses in financial markets or environmental/resource economics.
• Capstone and practical experience: a final-year research project or dissertation and an industry placement or internship to apply theory to real-world problems.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to hold a recognised secondary school certificate (national secondary certificate or equivalent) and to meet Qassim University’s general admission standards. A good background in mathematics is expected because of the quantitative nature of many modules. Prospective students may also be asked to pass university entrance tests and to demonstrate sufficient language skills for instruction and assessment in Arabic and English, as applicable. International applicants should present certified equivalent qualifications and any additional documentation requested by the admissions office.

Graduates of the Bachelor in Economics work across government, the private sector and international organisations.
