What you'll study

The programme blends core media theory with vocational training in radio and television production. Early study focuses on fundamentals — introduction to media studies, principles of audio and visual storytelling, media writing and basic production techniques. Practical modules build technical skills in studio production, field production, multicamera workflows, location sound, lighting for camera, digital editing and post-production, and sound design.

Later years emphasise applied practice and industry standards: advanced television production, radio programming and broadcasting, live-streaming and multiplatform content, producing and directing for broadcast, media law and ethics, and audience analysis. Students complete a sustained capstone project or final-year production (such as a short television show, radio documentary or a multi-episode digital series) and undertake an internship or placement in an industry setting.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised secondary school qualification. Typical offers include successful completion of high school or A-levels with good grades; equivalent international qualifications are accepted. Admissions may consider practical experience, a portfolio or a short demo reel of relevant work, and a personal statement outlining interest in broadcast production.

Applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate proficiency through recognised English language qualifications. Mature applicants with relevant professional experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered on an individual basis.

Career prospects

Graduates from this programme move into a range of broadcast and media roles across radio, television and digital platforms. Common entry-level and mid-level roles include production assistant, camera operator, sound technician, video or audio editor, floor manager, assistant producer and continuity operator. With experience, graduates progress to producer, director, broadcast engineer, content manager or specialist roles in post-production and sound design.
