What you'll study

The programme combines foundational criminal justice topics with specialised forensic coursework and practical laboratory experience. Core subjects introduce the structure of the criminal justice system, criminological theory, constitutional and criminal law, and research methods. Forensic-focused modules typically include crime-scene investigation, evidence collection and preservation, forensic biology and serology, forensic chemistry and toxicology, latent print examination, and digital forensics. Students also study forensic psychology, interview and interrogation techniques, and courtroom testimony and expert witness preparation.

Teaching methods mix lectures, seminars and hands-on laboratory sessions in evidence processing and analysis. Many students complete a supervised internship with local police departments, forensic laboratories or private investigative firms, and a capstone project synthesises investigative methods with case analysis and research.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised secondary school leaving qualification. Typical requirements include a satisfactory overall attainment level and passes in English and mathematics or a science subject. Admissions consider applicants' academic records, personal statement and references. Some programmes may request an interview or additional documentation such as a résumé of relevant experience.

Because placements with law enforcement or forensic labs are an integral part of the course, students must be able to undergo pre-placement checks which may include a background check and health clearance.
