What you'll study

This online MA balances practical studio-led practice with contextual research and professional skills. You will investigate digital capture, post-production, computational imaging, moving-image and new media strategies alongside histories and theories of photography. The programme is structured around a sequence of taught units and a sustained major project, delivered through a combination of tutor-led seminars, technical demonstrations, peer critique and individual tutorials.

• Core modules — Research methods and critical contexts for contemporary photography; professional practice and dissemination; digital workflows and post-production processes.
• Technical and practice units — Advanced image capture (digital stills and motion), lighting, colour management, retouching, compositing and imaging for web and screen; experimentation with AR/VR and generative media where relevant to the student’s practice.

• Collaborative and elective options — Opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, take electives in curating, publishing, or sound/motion, and to undertake live briefs with industry partners.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold an undergraduate degree in photography, visual arts or a related discipline or to demonstrate equivalent professional experience. The programme welcomes applicants with substantial professional practice who can evidence the ability to study at postgraduate level.
