What you'll study

This diploma gives you a broad grounding in the everyday skills and knowledge required to manage people, processes and small projects. Teaching blends classroom learning, practical workshops and employer‑facing assignments.

• Principles of Management – introduction to management theory, organisational structures and decision making.
• Leadership and Team Development – developing personal leadership styles, motivating staff and managing team performance.
• Operations and Project Management – planning, resource allocation, basic project techniques and continuous improvement tools.
• Human Resource Practices – recruitment, induction, performance appraisal, and basic employment law awareness.
• Marketing and Customer Service – market awareness, customer relationship management and communication skills.
• Finance for Managers – understanding budgets, cost control and simple financial reporting for non‑specialists.
• Business Law and Ethics – legal duties, compliance and ethical decision making relevant to managers.
• Workplace Practice and Employability – CVs, interview preparation, professional conduct and a supported work placement or simulated employer project.
• Applied Research and Project – independent investigation into a workplace problem and presentation of recommendations.

Assessment is typically by a mix of coursework, practical assignments, presentations and a final project; some units may include timed tests or workplace evidence. The programme is offered with flexible delivery options, including full‑time and part‑time pathways where available.

Entry requirements

• Normal entry is a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject, or several GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, typically including English and/or maths; applicants without formal qualifications but with relevant workplace experience are considered.
• Applicants may be asked to attend an interview and provide a reference or employer statement if applying with work experience.
• For learners whose first language is not English, evidence of an appropriate English level may be required.
• There are often additional support routes for mature students and learners returning to study; diagnostic assessments for numeracy and literacy are used to identify study support needs.

Graduates leave with practical management skills that prepare them for entry to supervisory or administrative roles across private, public and third‑sector organisations. Typical job titles and progression routes include:

• Team leader, supervisor or shift manager in retail, hospitality, manufacturing or care settings.

• Self‑employment or starting a small business using the enterprise and operations skills developed on the course.
