What you'll study

Instruction progresses through system-based basic science and progressive clinical exposure across four levels (OMS-I through OMS-IV). Early years focus on normal structure and function and pathological processes, with cadaveric anatomy labs. Students use standardized patients, simulation encounters and high-fidelity simulators to develop clinical skills. Later years expand clinical placements at LUCOM educational sites and include online coursework on core disciplines; the final year comprises clinical rotations in medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and up to five local or global electives.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for licensure as osteopathic physicians and may practice across medical specialties, prescribe medications, perform surgery, work in hospitals, teach, conduct laboratory or clinical research, and manage medical centers. Osteopathic physicians trained here may practice in all U.S. states and in numerous countries worldwide.
