What you'll study

The degree requires 38.67 semester credit hours; up to 9 semester credit hours may be applied from equivalent graduate work at another institution if not previously used toward an advanced degree. The core comprises 11 courses covering:

• Paradigms of consciousness — study of how worldviews emerge, persist and shift, including indigenous, modern, postmodern, holistic and integral paradigms and their roles in personal and social transformation.
• Emotional intelligence and mindfulness — foundations of what emotions are, physiological and experiential origins, phenomenological description, and mindfulness practice to observe and work with habitual cognitive and emotional patterns.
• Interpersonal emotional skills (prerequisite: CNS 5012) — applying emotional intelligence, intuition and cultural competence to listening, communication, nonviolent communication, conflict resolution and conscious relationship skills.
• Somatic and body-centered practice (1.33 credits) — experiential exploration of body awareness using somatic modalities and movement practices to develop body consciousness, creativity and expressive skills relevant to personal and spiritual development.
• Human development and integral theory — comparative developmental models (Erikson, Kohlberg, Gilligan, Fowler, Kegan) and introductory elements of Ken Wilber’s integral theory (four quadrants, states vs. stages, premodern/modern/postmodern) to frame psycho-spiritual growth and leadership.
• Diversity, leadership and community development (prerequisite: CNS 5013) — self-inquiry into leadership identity, global citizenship, community development, diversity and technologies for transformative change.
• Transpersonal psychology — examination of higher and non-ordinary dimensions of experience (mystical experiences, lucid dreaming, entheogens, shamanic practices, near-death phenomena, parapsychology, spiritual emergency, transpersonal therapies), using readings, contemplative exercises and discussion to deepen understanding of psychological and spiritual development.
• Living systems theory — introduction to principles of living systems with theoretical and experiential components and application to selected areas (course description truncated in source).
