What you'll study

The full MSEd curriculum spans 30–36 credits of online coursework. Core topics address ethics, diversity, assessment and learning theory while pathway courses concentrate on leadership-related skills such as instructional supervision, school law and finance. Students apply learning through action research projects and practical artifacts like digital portfolios.

• Differentiation Theory and Strategies (EDU 597, 3 credits) — study theories of differentiated instruction, links to neuroscience, and integrate differentiation strategies into unit and lesson design for diverse learners; collegial reflection on strategy use is a major component.
• Ethical Responsibilities in Today’s Educational Systems (EDU 598, 3 credits) — examine ethics and moral leadership within complex educational systems, explore leadership frameworks tied to personal values and apply ethical decision-making to educational scenarios with peer collaboration.
• Developing a Framework for Diversity and Inclusion (EDU 599, 3 credits) — focus on diversity, inclusion and social justice; create a diversity and inclusion framework informed by literature and theories on social identity in historical context.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (or international equivalent). The program uses holistic admissions and does not require GRE scores. For the Educational Leadership pathway specifically, applicants must hold a current teaching license or certification and be employed in, or have regular access to, an educational setting where they can apply course concepts. Submitted materials include an online application, resume/CV, goal statement responding to prompts about motivations and growth areas, and official transcripts; candidates close to finishing a bachelor’s may receive conditional acceptance pending final transcript.

Graduates are prepared for school-based leadership positions and roles requiring skills in instructional supervision, school law, finance and ethical leadership. The Educational Leadership pathway aligns with preparation for Building Administrator certification in Maine and suits teachers moving into administrative or leadership roles within K–12 settings.
