What you'll study

The curriculum covers contemporary and classical acting, intensive movement and physical training, stage combat, dance, and sustained voice training. Key elements include:

• Four years of acting training.
• One or more years of dance fundamentals and modern dance, with options such as jazz/theatre dance or ballet as electives.
• Three years of private singing lessons, scheduled twice each week.
• Intensive movement and physical work, including a year of stage combat.
• Consistent participation in campus productions as ensemble members, understudies, supporting or leading roles.

Entry requirements

Admission requires meeting Wright State University's undergraduate standards and demonstrating acting proficiency through an audition. The B.F.A. Acting program is highly selective, accepting approximately 10% of applicants who audition. Prospective students apply online to the university and schedule an audition; master classes are often held the day before auditions.

Career prospects

The program prepares students for professional work across theatre, television and film as performers and related roles. Wright State reports that about 80% of its graduates find field-related employment immediately after graduation. Alumni have gone on to regional theatres, national tours, Broadway and off-Broadway work, television and film, commercials, themed entertainment, cruise ships, and membership in professional unions such as Actors' Equity and SAG-AFTRA. Graduates may also pursue graduate training for academic or specialized career paths.
