What you'll study

The curriculum spans two academic years and centres on coursework in the first year followed by thesis development in the second year.

• Año 1 — Semestre I: Técnicas estocásticas y estadísticas en Data Science; Tópicos en Data Management y Data Analytics; Electivo I; Electivo II; Electivo III.
• Año 1 — Semestre II: Álgebra lineal y optimización para data science; Métodos de aprendizaje de máquinas en data science; Seminario de Tesis; Electivo IV; Electivo V.
• Año 2 — Semestre III y IV: Desarrollo de Tesis (dos semestres dedicados a la tesis de magíster).

Entry requirements

Primary applicants hold a licentiate (Licenciatura) in engineering sciences or a professional degree equivalent; desirable background includes programming and database knowledge and reading-level English. UAI undergraduates who have completed their licenciatura are eligible; in exceptional cases applicants with two pending undergraduate courses may be admitted but cannot take Seminario I until the licenciatura is granted. The application process requests CV, identification, motivation letter, two recommendation letters, academic degree, academic transcript (including all courses), and ranking of graduation; a certificate of English level if available. Admissions weighting: 20% academic record, 10% English level, 10% CV, 30% interview, 20% references, 10% motivation letter; a personal interview is required.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to evaluate and apply state-of-the-art models and technologies in data science, integrate computer science, statistics and mathematics to build multidisciplinary solutions, and undertake research that can be communicated in scientific or applied settings. They are positioned to work in public sector, private companies or research environments where advanced data-driven decision making and methodological development are needed.

Scholarships & funding angle

The Faculty may propose tuition reductions of up to 90% for external applicants with outstanding academic credentials; a maintenance scholarship is also awarded annually to the top selected applicant. Final decisions are made by the Faculty and the Academic Committee according to the cohort.
