What you'll study

The award requires 90 ECTS across 11 modules: 60 ECTS of taught modules and a 30 ECTS research thesis. Students take eight core modules, choose two of four specialization modules, and submit a master’s dissertation.

• Core modules (selected): Basic Epidemiology (8 ECTS), Basic Biostatistics for Public Health (8 ECTS), Health Informatics (6 ECTS), Research Ethics in Public Health (4 ECTS), Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance (4 ECTS), Health Education and Promotion (6 ECTS), Health Economics and Policy (6 ECTS), Global Health (4 ECTS).
• Specialisations: Epidemiology & Biostatistics track modules include Applied Methods for Public Health (8 ECTS) and Advanced Biostatistical Methods (6 ECTS). Environmental Health track modules include Environmental Health Evaluation (6 ECTS) and Environment and Population Health (8 ECTS).
• Thesis: A supervised research dissertation (30 ECTS) which may involve fieldwork and/or data analysis; submission is typically once a year at end of November.
• Delivery and assessment: Taught modules combine lectures, seminars and tutorials (two to three hours each) plus self-study. Assessment mixes coursework and exams including problem-solving, essays, reports, presentations and computer practicals.
• Duration and modes: Full-time route is 14 months (two semesters of taught modules plus dissertation completed in absentia). Part-time is typically 26 months (four semesters plus dissertation).

Entry requirements

Applicants need a bachelor’s degree or international equivalent with a background in health sciences, biological sciences, social sciences, mathematics or another relevant discipline. Degrees must be awarded by an accredited institution or judged equivalent by the Cyprus recognition authority (KYSATS). Final-year undergraduates may apply provided they expect to receive their degree before the programme starts. The programme is taught in English.

Career prospects

The programme trains health professionals and recent graduates to acquire practical public-health skills useful to employers in the public health sector. It emphasises core public health science and practice, risk assessment, study design, data collection and analysis, and environmental-health and epidemiological specialisms that underpin roles in research, policy support, health services administration and public-health implementation.
