What you'll study

The program combines hands‑on clinical training with classroom instruction. Students learn diagnostic and surgical assistance techniques (including x‑ray use and anesthesia/dental support), preventive medicine, animal nutrition, and veterinary pharmacology. Entry requirements

The degree is a four‑year undergraduate Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Technician track). Graduates are prepared to sit the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), which has been required for veterinary technician licensure in California since March 1, 2014; the California State RVT exam requirement was discontinued in April 2019. Between July 15, 2022 and Aug. 31, 2024, 41 first‑time program candidates took the VTNE with a reported three‑year pass rate of 90% (national three‑year average 68%). Career prospects

Graduates typically enter roles as veterinary technicians/registered veterinary technologists assisting with medical and surgical care, diagnostics, anesthesia and client communication.
