What you'll study

The curriculum is integrated and covers advanced practice content and primary care management. Core topics and sample courses listed by the program include:

• NUR 6510 – Advanced Health Assessment and Differential Diagnosis (3 credits): advanced assessment skills and clinical reasoning with an associated clinical component.
• NUR 6540 – Primary Care Clinical Management: FNP I (3 credits): the first of six clinical management courses focused on applying advanced pathophysiology to assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning in adult primary care; includes integration of evidence-based practice, health promotion and collaboration.
• NUR 6520 – Advanced Practice Professional Issues (2 credits): exploration of the APRN role, regulation, interprofessional collaboration, accountability and outcomes.
• NUR 6600 – Advanced Practice Capstone I (1 credit): a capstone experience (program lists a capstone sequence).

Other stated curricular emphases include nursing research, healthcare policy and politics, advanced pharmacology concepts, and development of culturally responsive primary care skills.

Completion awards eligibility to pursue FNP credentialing and expands a nurse’s scope into primary care practice.
