Université de Franche Comté

20 Programs 1 Degree levels

A two-year Master programme in Mathematics offering routes for advanced research or general mathematics teaching. It suits students with a Licence in mathematics (or equivalent) aiming for doctoral studies, secondary/tertiary teaching, or mathematical applications in industry.

Programme overview

The Master Mathématiques at Université de Franche-Comté is organised into two second-year pathways: "Mathématiques approfondies" (geared toward research in pure and applied mathematics) and "Mathématiques générales" (aimed at careers in mathematics education for secondary level, classes préparatoires and higher education). The first year is common to both tracks; students select stages and projects during that year which can be oriented either toward research professions or toward teaching. Transition between tracks is possible: a student who validated the "Mathématiques générales" parcours may later follow "Mathématiques approfondies". Students in the approfondies track may also enrol concurrently in the Magistère de Mathématiques subject to a dossier-based selection.

What you'll study

Curriculum content is structured over the Master semesters with a shared first year (semestre 7) and specialised second-year pathways. Teaching covers fundamental and applied mathematical topics, research-oriented projects and professional stages. The programme emphasises mathematical argumentation, problem analysis and logical reasoning, scientific writing and oral presentation (including in English), bibliographic research and use of computational and symbolic calculation tools.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a Licence in mathematics or an equivalent qualification. Admission procedures and registration modalities are handled through the university admission portal (see admission.univ-fcomte.fr for details).

Career prospects

Graduates prepare for careers in mathematical research (fundamental or applied), teaching at secondary and higher education levels including classes préparatoires, and mathematical applications in industry such as engineering consultancies, banks and service sectors. The programme also supports progression to doctoral studies.

Scholarships & funding angle

There is no entrance fee for students receiving grants. Tuition amounts for initial education (excluding CVEC) follow the national decree on higher-education fees; the university applies a partial exemption for non-EU students subject to differentiated fees, reducing their payment to the level of EU students for the same degree. For continuing education modalities consult SeFoC'Al. For precise amounts and conditions contact the scolarité contacts provided by the university.
