What you'll study

The degree requires 72 hours and is designed to be completed within a 36-month timeframe. Example coursework listed by the program includes Foundations of the Theology of Ministry, Critical Interpretation of the New Testament, Introduction to Hebrew I, and Christian Mission in Global Context. Students may choose a concentration in missions or ministry. The M.Div. also serves as preparatory groundwork for doctoral study (Ph.D., Th.D., D.Min.).

Entry requirements

• Completed program application and non-refundable processing fee.
• Official transcripts showing an earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
• Cumulative undergraduate approximate B average or above in the area of focus or related area and evidence of an overall productive GPA.
• Two letters of recommendation.
• A reflective essay of 3–5 pages, typed and double-spaced.
• Completion of an academic writing assessment.

Career prospects

The curriculum is intended to prepare graduates to enter ministry or to expand an existing vocational role within church settings. Learning goals include integrating theology in contemporary cultural contexts, awareness of historical and global church beliefs and practices (including the Stone-Campbell heritage), leading and equipping congregational ministries, exercising pastoral care, and demonstrating growth in Christian character required for faithful ministerial service.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

The program notes a stackable Graduate Certificate in Practical Ministry: completing that 18-credit certificate can be applied toward the M.Div., which the school presents as a way to save money when progressing to the full master’s. The published cost figure on the page is $798 per credit hour with a $200 resource fee per term.
