What you'll study

Students complete graduate coursework aligned with their certification area while simultaneously teaching full time in a P–12 classroom. The program places emphasis on translating educational theory into daily practice by having candidates serve as the teacher of record and enroll in internship classes tied to that experience.

Entry requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with transcript
• Passage of all required subject‑area certification exams
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Completed application
• Secure a full‑time teaching position in the intended certification area (teacher of record)
• Compliance with university policies, including a criminal background check and PSED membership with liability insurance

Career prospects

Candidates pursue initial licensure while employed as teachers of record. The experience‑based Master of Education is offered in the following certification pathways: Art Education; Early Childhood & Elementary Education; Secondary Education; and Special Education. Employment during the program gives immediate opportunities to implement coursework in the classroom and build practical teaching experience while completing certification.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Students should budget for the stated per‑credit cost and investigate institutional scholarships, employer tuition support from their district, and state or federal aid. Because the pathway requires full‑time employment, some candidates can offset tuition through district benefits or tuition reimbursement programs.
