The Bachelor of Management (General) is a 3-year online degree delivered by the Faculty of Business. The curriculum emphasises ethical, global, political and environmental dimensions of organisational life and aims to build critical thinking, communication and leadership abilities. The program requires 90 credits and accepts monthly enrolments so students can begin study at any time. AU reports an average student age of 37, a 90% employment rate and a 93% student satisfaction rate among recent cohorts.
The program gives a broad management foundation and practical tools to plan, organise, direct and control organisational activities. Core topic areas listed by the faculty include:
Students also work on problem-solving, decision-making, monitoring and assessing organisational change, together with ethical and structural aspects of management and commercial practice.
There are no formal admission prerequisites for the standard three-year route; applicants need only be at least 16 years old and may enrol and start immediately. Applicants who already hold a degree in administration, business, commerce or management—or a degree with a related major or concentration from Athabasca University or another university—are not eligible for this program.
For diploma holders, AU offers post-diploma routes with generous credit transfer so prior diploma study can shorten time to degree completion.
Graduates are prepared for a range of management roles thanks to training in leadership, communication, analytical problem-solving and the operational functions of organisations. The degree is presented as a marketable credential in Canada and the United States and AU data cites a strong employment outcome and median income for recent graduates.
Tuition is charged on a per-course, pay-as-you-go basis and course fees vary by location and course weight; estimated program costs are published in the university Calendar. Athabasca University also lists financial aid and awards to help students manage costs. Diploma-to-degree pathways can reduce total tuition by allowing transfer of previously earned credits.
