The PhD programme combines advanced theoretical study with rigorous research training. Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or an equivalent graduate nursing degree from an accredited institution and be a licensed registered nurse in the United States or hold eligibility for licensure. Typical requirements include a competitive graduate GPA (normally at or above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale), a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests or a preliminary research proposal, and three professional references.

Additional expectations often include several years of clinical or administrative nursing experience, evidence of prior scholarly activity (such as publications or presentations) where available, and successful identification of potential faculty mentors whose research interests align with the applicant. Some applicants may be asked to complete an interview; standardised test scores (e.g. GRE) are considered on a programme-by-programme basis according to department policy.
