What you'll study

The BSN programme combines foundational sciences, nursing theory and extensive clinical practice. Typical topics and modules include anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology and pathophysiology; health assessment and lifespan development; adult medical‑surgical nursing, maternal‑child and paediatric care; mental health and community/public health nursing. Students also study nursing leadership and management, nursing research and evidence‑based practice, care quality and safety, and ethics and legal issues in healthcare.

The curriculum emphasises skills development through simulation labs and supervised clinical placements in hospitals, community clinics and long‑term care settings. Students select or are guided toward experiences and coursework that support one of the programme’s emphases — clinical nursing practice, nursing administration or nursing research — for example: advanced clinical practicum and specialty clinical rotations for clinical pathways; healthcare finance, organisational leadership and human resources for administration; and research methods, statistics and a capstone research project for research pathways.

Entry requirements

Admission to the BSN programme normally requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of specified prerequisite courses, typically including college‑level biology (often with labs), chemistry, anatomy and physiology or related life sciences, and English and mathematics. Applicants should demonstrate a solid academic record in those prerequisites and meet the university’s general admissions criteria.

Because clinical placements and licensure preparation are core components, successful applicants must meet standard professional requirements such as current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, satisfactory background checks, drug screening and up‑to‑date immunisations prior to clinical rotations. The nursing school’s admission process is competitive and may involve a programme‑specific application, review of GPA and prerequisite grades, and other assessments of readiness for practice.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to sit for the national licensure exam for registered nurses and to practise as RNs across a range of care settings. Typical early career roles include staff nurse in acute care, community and public health nursing, obstetrics/pediatrics, mental health services and long‑term care. With experience or additional education, graduates move into roles in nursing administration, case management, quality improvement, clinical education and research coordination.

The programme also provides a foundation for graduate study leading to advanced practice nursing, nurse practitioner roles, clinical leadership, nurse educator positions or careers in nursing research and health services administration.
