What you'll study

This programme blends core life-science subjects with applied nutrition and clinical practice. Early study focuses on anatomy and physiology, cellular and organismal biology, and introductory chemistry and biochemistry to give a strong biomedical foundation. Progressing modules cover nutritional biochemistry, lifecycle and community nutrition, clinical nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, nutritional assessment and counselling, food science and safety, and foodservice systems and management.

Learning methods include lectures, laboratory practicals, case-based seminars and small-group tutorials. Students complete coursework in research methods and statistics and undertake a capstone project or honours thesis that integrates clinical, community or laboratory research. Many pathways also include supervised practicum or clinical placements with hospital and community nutrition services to develop applied assessment and intervention skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants should demonstrate strong preparation in the sciences and quantitative subjects at secondary level; typical preparation includes biology and chemistry, and mathematics.
