What you'll study

This programme combines technical building science with contemporary digital design and fabrication methods. Core modules cover building performance and environmental systems, building information modelling (BIM), and materials and methods of construction. Students study structural principles relevant to architectural practice, energy modelling and daylighting analysis, and the integration of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems into design.

Technical electives allow specialisation in areas such as digital fabrication and computational design, advanced façade systems, sustainable building technologies and construction management and estimating. The course includes a research methods component and a capstone design-technology project or thesis that requires application of building science and digital workflows to a real-world problem.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural technology, civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, or a closely related field. Admissions typically consider academic transcripts, a portfolio or examples of technical work (for those from design backgrounds), a statement of purpose outlining professional and research goals, and at least one academic or professional reference.

Practical experience in construction, design offices or engineering firms strengthens an application. Where an applicant’s first language is not English, acceptable evidence of English language proficiency is required. Specific GPA minima, portfolio guidelines and any test requirements are provided by the university’s admissions office.
