• Foundations of STS: conceptual frameworks from sociology, history and philosophy applied to scientific and technological change.

• Ethics and social responsibility: ethical evaluation of emerging technologies such as biotechnology, data systems and energy technologies.
• Research methods: research design, qualitative methods (interviews, case studies, ethnography) and quantitative approaches relevant to STS research.
• Applied practicum or thesis: a supervised research project or practicum placement that applies theoretical and methodological skills to a real-world problem.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (for example, science, engineering, social science, humanities or a professional field).
