What you'll study

The programme combines a solid foundation in calculus and mathematics with core training in probability, statistical theory and applied methods tailored to biological and medical data. Early courses build quantitative skills (calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics) and introduce programming for data analysis. Core statistics modules typically include introductory and intermediate probability and mathematical statistics, regression and multivariate analysis, experimental design and time series.

Biostatistics-focused subjects cover statistical methods for the life sciences such as survival analysis, clinical trials design and analysis, longitudinal data analysis, categorical data analysis, and statistical genetics. Computational training emphasises reproducible analysis using R, SAS and/or Python, and there is instruction in data management and bioinformatics basics. The degree normally culminates in a capstone project or practicum involving real biomedical datasets or an internship with a health agency, hospital research group or industry partner.

Students may also take elective courses from biology, public health, epidemiology, and computer science to deepen subject-matter knowledge and practical skills. Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a secondary school diploma or equivalent with a strong record in mathematics. Successful candidates typically have completed algebra, precalculus or calculus, and have achieved competitive grades overall. Preparation in statistics, biology or computer science is advantageous but not always required.
