What you'll study

The Biology degree combines core courses in foundational biological concepts with laboratory and field-based training. Early coursework typically includes General Biology, Principles of Biology Laboratory, and introductory courses in Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics to build quantitative and experimental skills.

Upper-level modules cover topics such as Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Microbiology, Ecology and Evolution. Students also encounter specialised courses and laboratory experiences in areas like developmental biology, immunology, plant biology, animal behaviour and conservation biology.

A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on learning: students complete laboratory courses, participate in field studies, and can design independent research projects or honours theses under faculty supervision. Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Typical preparation includes college-preparatory coursework in biology, chemistry and mathematics; many successful applicants have also studied physics and calculus. Admissions decisions consider the overall academic record, strength of science and maths programme, personal statement and extracurricular engagement.

Prospective transfer students will have prior college credit evaluated for equivalence to required biology and supporting science courses. Advanced placement, IB or other recognised examination credits may be accepted for introductory requirements according to the university's credit policies. International applicants must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements.
