What you'll study

The programme blends business fundamentals with a concentrated study of economics. In the early years you take core business modules such as financial accounting, principles of management, marketing fundamentals and introductory finance alongside introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics. Quantitative skills are emphasised through courses in calculus for business, business statistics and econometrics.

Later-stage modules deepen theoretical and applied knowledge: intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, applied econometrics, public economics, international economics and monetary theory. Optional topics commonly available include labour economics, industrial organisation, game theory, behavioural economics and development economics. The degree typically culminates in a capstone or research project where students apply empirical techniques to a policy or business question, and opportunities for internships, consulting projects or study abroad are integrated into the course.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to have a solid secondary school record with demonstrable strength in mathematics and numeracy. Successful candidates typically present strong grades in mathematics (or statistics) and evidence of academic maturity in other subjects. Capital University also considers contextual information such as extracurricular achievements, personal statements and references. Mature and transfer applicants are welcome and are assessed on prior post-secondary study and professional experience. For international applicants, proof of English language competence is required where applicable.
