The Master of Urban Planning (Professional) combines taught courses, studio-based design work and applied professional practice to develop skills in spatial planning, policy analysis and project delivery. Core topics typically include planning theory and methods, resource and environmental planning under national and local legislation, urban design and place-making, transport and infrastructure planning, and Māori and Pacific perspectives on planning and development.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as urban planning, geography, architecture, engineering, environmental studies, or a closely related field. Applicants with a degree in another discipline but with substantial professional experience in planning, design or related practice may also be considered. A demonstrated interest in planning and an ability to undertake applied studio work is important.
