What you'll study

This undergraduate major builds core competence across molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry and ecology, with practical training in modern laboratory methods and data analysis. Teaching combines lectures, small-group tutorials, laboratory practicals and fieldwork to develop experimental skills, critical thinking and scientific communication.

• Core modules: molecular and cellular biology, genetic principles and laboratory techniques, biochemistry, microbiology and immunology, organismal biology and physiology.
• Quantitative and analytical skills: statistics for biology, bioinformatics and computational biology, laboratory methods and instrumentation, microscopy and imaging techniques.
• Ecology and environment: population and community ecology, conservation biology, environmental monitoring and field ecology techniques.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have completed secondary education with a strong science background, typically including biology and chemistry and preferably mathematics. Entry routes include local upper secondary qualifications and recognised international equivalents. Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate English language proficiency through an approved test or equivalent evidence of prior instruction in English. The Faculty may require an interview, portfolio of laboratory experience, or foundation programmes for applicants who need additional preparation.
