What you'll study

The programme combines core engineering fundamentals with specialist motorsport topics. As you progress you follow modules on vehicle dynamics, internal combustion and alternative powertrains, aerodynamics, control systems, sensors and data acquisition, and composites and lightweight structures. Practical skills are developed through CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics exercises, workshop-based manufacture and testing, plus calibration and telemetry work.

The BEng is structured to develop progressively deeper technical knowledge with laboratory work and small group design projects; the MEng adds advanced modules and a substantial individual or group research/design project to prepare you for professional practice or further research. All routes emphasise project work, professional skills (project management, communication, ethics) and industry-relevant software tools. Optional placement or sandwich-year opportunities are available to gain hands-on experience in the motorsport or automotive industries.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a strong background in mathematics and physics.
