What you'll study

The programme develops core professional knowledge, practical classroom skills and an understanding of international teaching standards. Typical modules cover professional practice and reflection, curriculum and lesson design, assessment for learning, behaviour management, inclusion and differentiation, subject-specific pedagogy and classroom enquiry. Training includes a mix of university-led seminars, online study, and substantial school-based placements where you will plan, teach and evaluate lessons under mentor guidance.

• Professional Practice and Reflective Teaching – principles of teacher professionalism, ethical practice, and reflective cycles to improve teaching.
• Curriculum Planning and Assessment – designing coherent sequences of learning and using formative and summative assessment to support progress.
• Inclusive Education and Special Educational Needs – strategies to adapt teaching for diverse learners and to meet statutory and international expectations for inclusion.
• Behaviour, Classroom Management and Safeguarding – positive behaviour approaches, routines and safeguarding responsibilities in school settings.
• Subject-Specific Pedagogy – practical approaches to teaching your chosen subject/age phase with attention to planning, resources and differentiation.
• School Experience and Professional Practice Placement – sustained, assessed placements in international or partner schools where practice is observed and assessed against iQTS standards.

Entry requirements

Applicants normally need a bachelor’s degree (honours level or international equivalent) in any discipline and evidence of recent experience working with children or young people in a school or educational setting. Candidates should meet recognised literacy and numeracy equivalence (for example, GCSE English and mathematics at the standard required by teacher-training regulators or equivalent qualifications). Overseas applicants may need to demonstrate English language proficiency to the university’s required level. Additional requirements include a satisfactory enhanced disclosure/background check, references, and successful completion of any interview or selection activities set by the programme.

Graduates of the iPGCE with iQTS are prepared for qualified teaching roles in international schools, private and state-funded schools that recognise international teacher standards, and schools that use international curricula such as the International Baccalaureate or British-style curricula overseas. Career pathways include classroom teacher, subject leader, year/phase coordinator, curriculum developer, educational consultant, or progression to senior leadership roles with further experience and study.
