What you'll study

This degree integrates the foundational modules of an undergraduate law programme with complementary modules from political science. You will cover the substantive legal building blocks such as contract law, tort, criminal law, public (constitutional and administrative) law, land law, equity and trusts, and core skills including legal research, writing and advocacy.

On the politics side you will study subjects such as political theory, comparative politics, UK government and politics, public policy, international relations and political behaviour. Modules are designed to develop understanding of how political institutions shape law and how legal frameworks influence political decision-making.

• Year 1: introduction to legal method and the main legal subjects alongside introductory politics modules (eg. political ideas and UK politics).
• Years 2–3: deeper study of compulsory law topics plus optional politics and law-related modules (eg. human rights, EU/European law, public policy analysis, comparative government).
• Professional skills: assessment methods include examinations, coursework, case analysis, mooting, group projects and a research dissertation or extended independent project option.
• Optional experiences: opportunities to take work placements, a year abroad or a year in professional practice where available; extra-curricular activities typically include mooting, debating and pro bono work with community legal and advice providers.

Entry requirements

Entry is normally at undergraduate level. Applicants are expected to hold a secondary school qualification such as A-levels, an International Baccalaureate diploma or an equivalent recognised qualification. The University considers applications from mature students and those with relevant vocational or work experience.

• Academic qualifications: typical offers ask for good grades at A-level or equivalent; specific conditions vary by year and by applicant qualifications.
