What you'll study

This program builds on the skills and experience of enrolled nurses and covers the clinical, theoretical and professional knowledge required for registered nursing practice. Core study areas include anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, health assessment and clinical decision-making, acute and chronic care, mental health nursing, community and primary health care, aged care and rehabilitation, and Indigenous and culturally safe practice.

Students also study professional topics such as legal and ethical frameworks, nursing leadership and management, and research and evidence-based practice. The curriculum combines campus-based learning with practical clinical placements and simulated practice using dedicated clinical skills laboratories. Recognition of prior learning and credit for existing enrolments and work experience are commonly available, allowing the program to be tailored to each student’s background.

Entry requirements

• Current registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the relevant national nursing regulator (for example, the NMBA in Australia).
• A recognised diploma or equivalent credential in enrolled nursing and demonstrated clinical experience in nursing practice.
• University or vocational study results that meet entry standards, or an approved bridging/recognition pathway if coming from non-university backgrounds.
• Evidence of English language proficiency where English is not the applicant’s first language, as per university policy.
• Health and immunisation checks, police clearances and any other statutory or placement-related requirements mandated by clinical partners.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to register and practise as registered nurses across a wide range of healthcare settings. Typical employment destinations include public and private hospitals, community and primary health services, aged-care and residential facilities, mental health services, rehabilitation centres and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services.

Career pathways extend into specialist clinical roles, nursing leadership and unit management, nurse education, clinical coordination and research. Graduates may also pursue further study such as postgraduate clinical specialisations, public health, nurse practitioner pathways or health management.
