What you'll study

This combined degree integrates professional teacher education with intensive visual arts study. Core education subjects cover adolescent development, curriculum and assessment, inclusive pedagogy, behaviour and classroom management, education law and ethics, and professional practice. You will complete multiple supervised school-based professional experience placements across primary and secondary settings to develop practical classroom skills.

Visual Arts components focus on studio practice and theory. Typical subjects include drawing and painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital imaging and moving image, photography, ceramics, and fibre/3D media. You will also study art history, contemporary art theory, visual culture, curatorial practice and exhibition-making. Studio subjects emphasise technical processes, experimentation and the development of an individual creative portfolio.

Throughout the degree you will undertake subjects that link theory and practice, such as curriculum design for the arts, assessment and moderation in visual arts, and the use of digital technologies in art education. Capstone and portfolio subjects support your transition to professional practice as both an educator and an exhibiting artist.
