What you'll study

The programme combines theoretical and applied study of social policy, welfare and social justice. Core themes typically include the development and comparative analysis of welfare states, theories of social policy, contemporary policy responses to poverty and inequality, and policy issues in areas such as housing, health and social care, families, and employment.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a UK honours degree (or recognised equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as social policy, sociology, politics, social work, health studies or a closely related field. A lower second-class degree is usually acceptable, particularly when combined with relevant professional experience.

Applicants without a directly related degree but with substantial professional experience in the public, voluntary or private sectors may also be considered. All applications are assessed on the basis of academic merit, personal statement and, where relevant, references or evidence of work experience.
