What you'll study

This programme combines advanced theoretical study with practical methods and an independent research project. Core areas typically include advanced research methods and data analysis, contemporary issues and debates in the Aarmpet1 field, and applied practice or professional skills. Students also take elective modules that allow them to specialise — for example, thematic or regional studies, advanced technical methods, policy and governance, or practice-led workshops.

• Research Methods and Design – qualitative and quantitative techniques, project design, ethics and critical appraisal.
• Advanced Topics in Aarmpet1 – conceptual frameworks, contemporary debates and cross-disciplinary perspectives.
• Applied Practice / Professional Placement – practical project, internship or fieldwork with local partners where applicable.
• Electives – options to focus on specialised areas through seminars and seminars-led modules.
• Dissertation / Independent Research Project – a substantial piece of supervised research demonstrating advanced knowledge and original contribution to the field.

Teaching methods combine lectures, seminars, workshops, supervised research and assessed practical tasks. Assessment is by coursework, presentations, placement reports and the final dissertation.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (upper second-class honours/2:1 or equivalent is typically preferred). Applicants with a lower-class honours degree plus relevant professional experience may be considered. Entry may also require a written research proposal or evidence of prior study in research methods for those aiming to undertake the dissertation. International applicants must demonstrate English language competence through an accepted qualification or test, unless exempt.

Selection may include review of academic transcripts, a personal statement outlining motivation and interests, and references. Where relevant, applicants may be invited to an interview with potential supervisors.
