What you'll study

Coursework integrates theoretical and applied learning with emphasis on materials, components and systems that affect building operation. Examples of Level 03 courses include:

• Building Science II — applying principles of physics to develop strategies addressing environmental influences on building operation.
• Thermodynamics — foundational engineering science used to identify, describe and solve problems relevant to building systems.
• Cooperative Education and Job Readiness — activities that prepare students for professional job search and workplace success.
• Calculus I — differential calculus focused on derivatives and their applications.

Entry requirements

Eligible graduates of the Architectural Technology Ontario College Advanced Diploma program can apply to this pathway and receive credit for 22 courses, shortening degree completion to three years. The program is full-time and eligible for the Post‑Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) based on current IRCC and Algonquin College classifications. Co-op work terms are available but placements depend on availability and academic eligibility; admission to the co-op stream does not guarantee a placement.

Career prospects

Industry analyses indicate graduates may work as building scientists, architectural or construction project managers, energy consultants or building inspectors. Other possible roles listed include researcher, junior analyst, entrepreneur or technical staff for engineering firms or government agencies.

Students should consult Algonquin College’s financial aid office and program pages for scholarships, bursaries and co-op wage opportunities. As an applied degree with co-op options, students can also seek paid work terms to offset study costs.
